Very Large Antique Staffordshire Dogs - 19th CenturyLarge pair of antique Staffordshire dogs with glass eyes and large curly tails. White colour with gilding to the bodies. Hand painted and all original, circa 1870. A rare and very attractive example. Originally produced in the 1750s, Staffordshire figures became hugely popular in the Victorian era, particularly among the upper classes, and were traditionally sold and displayed in pairs on mantelpieces. There are slight variations between the two
